Opacity Was the Whole Point
I spent an hour doing German taxes. No Steuerberater. No German friend. Just AI walking me through every screen.
Filed. Done.
Here's what I realized:
German bureaucracy's moat was never complexity.
It was opacity.
The system exists to require a guide. Steuerberater, Notare, Berater of every kind. The work itself isn't hard. Reading the system is.
That was the business model.
AI didn't simplify the system.
It made me not need to understand it.
That's a different kind of disruption.
Germany will try to protect the model. It can regulate AI. It can slow adoption.
It can't protect opacity.
And opacity was the whole point.
Every industry built on "you need a guide" is next.
